Our History
On a spring day in 2006, a lunch conversation over turkey sandwiches turned to energy deregulation and the opportunity available as a result. The two gentlemen, Jere Thompson, Jr. and Chris Chambless, saw the chance to build the “finest and most-respected retail energy provider” in the nation, and the idea of Ambit Energy was born.
The company initially started in a large, renovated warehouse in the historic West End district of downtown Dallas. It wasn’t fancy—the first desks were $19 fold-up tables—but the company grew rapidly into what it is today. By 2008, the company recorded revenues of over $200 million, and $325 million the following year! That earned Ambit Energy the title of Fastest-Growing Privately Held Company from SMU’s Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship.
